Spring 1997 - Cincinnati to Yukon

Day 99 - Marsh Lake, Yukon
8 July 1997 (mileage = 67.7) -- A - The riding was pretty easy today. I
think it was a combination of lots of rest yesterday and easy terrain and
some tail wind. For Chris, I'm sure the lack of mosquitoes was a huge
factor. We have a very small amount of chain lube left, so when it started
sprinkling today, we took off like rockets to get out of it. It worked
pretty well. Both of our back tires were showing signs of disintegration
(bad handling), so Chris put new tires on both bikes and cleaned the hubs
and wheels. Now, if we can just keep our chains from rusting solid, we
should be able to get to Whitehorse! Our site was only $5 and is very nice.
There's a very pretty lake with mountains in the back and a marina right
here. Someone was even sailing. A not-too-talkative Japanese cyclist is
next to us with a bunch of really new-looking stuff. Nice, though. We met
an American couple (over 50) today -- fully loaded and bush campers even!
We also stopped at a place that advertised fresh eggs for sale, but no one
was home. Chris wandered around and saw pigs, chickens, a greenhouse and
lots of other good stuff. Too bad we couldn't talk to them!
