Day 97 - Teslin Lake, Yukon

6 July 1997 (sunny; mileage = 31.7) -- A - We used the phone at our campsite to call voice mail and call my mom and Chris' dad. Our halfway stop was at Dawson Peak's Resort where Chris and I had awesome Mexican food and Susan and Hanspeter had very good-looking breakfast food. The second half of the ride took us to Mukluk Annie's, a place with FREE camping! On a beautiful lake! With NO MOSQUITOES!! WOWEE! We went down to the lake with beautiful, snowy mountains surrounding it. I took my shoes off and waded in a bit and Chris and Hanspeter went for a chilly swim! I watched some small fish and they skimmed rocks. All without mosquitoes! It's after 5:00 now and we haven't even had our rain for the day yet! A cyclist came here and talked to us. He's 50 and traveling to his 50th state via the Alaska Highway. He's alone for the trip. He lives in Germany now, but is from Toledo, Ohio. We are all wearing shorts and sandals -- totally unbelievable! X - Wow! What an awesome place! We had the typical mosquito drill this morning, but that was about all. At the restaurant halfway (great food!), they were as bad inside as out and obviously not bad. And here -- wow! It's like Ohio with nice scenery. The swim in the lake was cold but refreshing. It started to rain and storm in the afternoon. We got the bikes ready and got in our tents. I read German aloud from HP's grammar book. The rain stopped and I went down to the lake to practice and let everyone nap. I came back after the rain started again. I practiced some more and when I looked at the watch, it was time to eat ~ 9:00! So we all cooked dinner under the tarp in sporadic rain. Very nice. A great day.
