Day 55 - Michigan City, ND
25 May 1997 (sunny; wind from east! awesome winds! mileage = 118.5) -- A -
RECORD DAY! We had thumping music and people/car traffic at the VFW hall
next to our site from 10 PM till 3 AM. A car had its engine running for
over 1/2 an hour. It was soooo annoying. Chris even went to check it out.
Locked. No one in sight! We debated packing up and leaving then, but
finally they all left and it was QUIET! We woke up just before 7 and left
around 8. We left $3 of the $5 fee plus a note explaining our reason. Then
the wind pushed us over 100 miles! It was awesome riding! Our only trouble
came in our search for a grocery. We passed up a couple thinking N.D. would
have one, but we did not have such luck. Route 2 is a big road, but
settlements are set off along the railroad tracks. We did see flood damage
along the border. Very impressive and sad. We also saw an amazing sight of
supernatural proportions in a rest stop bathroom. It was very impressive!
Made it to Michigan City Park, which does not charge for camping. Awesome
again! X
- We ate at McD's in Crooksign to save time. We had the (almost) last of
our food near Larimore -- oatmeal. We didn't see a single grocery store
in Grand Forks. The flood damage made us hesitant to explore.
