Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati

Day 34
03 March 1998 (Eureka, Kansas/Lion's recreational park; mileage = 71) -- A
- We slept well in our luxurious motel room. It was quite comfortable. We
left around 9, after having breakfast snacks. We escaped Wichita proper and
ate more breakfast in a suburb called Andover (at McD's). A few miles
later, we stopped at Augusta for groceries, a shoe change (it was warm),
and a couple of patches for my flat rear tire. Once we got to the split of
400/54, we decided to take 54, since all the traffic was taking 400. Also,
the wind was out of the SOUTHwest for a change, and this route went
slightly north. The road had no shoulder for the 9 miles to El Dorado, but
it was 2 lanes without much traffic. Not too bad, but HILLY! Later in the
day, we went down some hills that even had a passing lane on the uphill
part (not our side! Yeah!). There was absolutely NOWHERE to hide our tent,
so we got to this town and tried the RV park -- luckily, no one was there
and we saw a Lion's Park down the street. Not intended for camping, but
that's our recreation!
