Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 01 March 1998
Day 32
01 March 1998 (east of Cunningham in a wooded area on a farm; mileage =
52.3) -- A - I did not go to sleep easily last night and then did not want
to get up this morning. We took our time and did voice mail and left
sometime after 10. We did go see the "World's Largest Hand-Dug Well." Chris
even dreamt about it in anticipation, and all I can say is WOW! It was, of
course, absurdly windy, but we made it into Pratt (about 30 miles) for
lunch at McD's. The town was largely unremarkable. It was merely a chunk of
Colerain Avenue carried off by a tornado and plunked down in Kansas.
Apparently, their main crop is beauty pageant contestants. So we ate our
unremarkable lunch and had a bit easier time with the wind, although I did
get blown over once (Chris had a similar occurrence earlier) and got to
Cunningham, where Chris bought Gatorade and inquired about camping. We
decided to pass on the RV lot and search out a hidden location. This
turned out not to be so easy, but we used a gate to get inside a fence and
are nestled in a little clump of trees. On the road back here is a bridge
without a guard rail. Ooh!
