Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 24 February 1998
Day 27
24 February 1998 (farm near La Junta; mileage = 72) -- A - We reluctantly
got up this morning, and Chris cleaned the bikes while I organized some
stuff. We went to the post office to mail photos, then to the laundromat to
get clean clothes. The grocery was across the street, so I walked over and
got yummies for lunch and a bunch of snacks. We vaulted out of town around
11:30 and had a perfect tail wind for about 20 miles, then it shifted and
the road turned some, and it was a hellacious cross wind. Most of the time,
it was enough from behind, but it took a lot of energy to keep the bikes
steady. Then as we started getting into town, the road turned badly and we
started looking for a place to camp, only it's a prairie. Chris tried
several houses and no one was home. We finally found a place with peacocks,
hens and a bunch of dogs that will hopefully leave us alone. And our tent
will hopefully not blow away. It's warm!
