Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 13 February (Friday the 13th) 1998
Day 16
13 February (Friday the 13th) 1998 (Grand Canyon; mileage = 0) -- X - We
decided to stay another day here and hang out with Steven and Helen. It was
VERY cold last night. I read 20 degrees on the thermometer this morning.
Our tent was miraculously drier than usual. We made pancakes while it
finished drying. Then I sprayed the fly sheet with silicon spray. Then I
noticed that the BOB was flat. I tried to patch it but couldn't find the
hole -- even in the bathroom sink. We then walked down to the
camping/grocery store -- which is pretty good. We bought some more long
underwear and stuff. Back at the tent, we stayed inside and I fixed the BOB
tire finally. It's much easier to screw with it in the dry, windless tent.
I wanted to fix my mirror, but April had bought 90-minute-set epoxy
yesterday. I went to the store again and got some quicker stuff. I then
fixed (I hope) my mirror and reinforced April's. Next, I wrote post cards
while April made a nice, comprehensive mileage log. We joined the British,
who had just returned from a hike, for dinner. We did some sleeping gear
arranging, and now we're ready for the cold night.
