Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 24 February 1998
Day 7
24 February 1998 (Vidal Junction BLM Land; mileage = 45.6) -- A - It
stopped raining by the time we got up, but everything was really drenched.
As we were hanging things to dry, a van with prisoners came into the park
and they milled about doing unclear things. As we were leaving, it became
apparent I had a flat. Chris fixed it and we finally left. We had a great
wind for a while and later it didn't seem to be helping as much as it
should, but we were climbing. Route 95 sucks! There is no shoulder to speak
of, and it's crawling with semis and RVs. We stopped at a town called
Vidal, but it was deserted, except for one or two dwellings. We ate lunch
there and went 6 miles further to Vidal Junction, which had a mini-mart
where Chris could get a soda, since he can't stand the water we have. We
set up across the street, back off the road a little way, and dodged the
rain we could see. We'll probably go west into Arizona tomorrow.
