Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati

Day 5
02 February 1998 (Colorado River [south of Palo Verde]; mileage = 50.1) --
A - We got started a bit earlier this morning and got to the neat sand
dunes right away. We also found that we'd been camping right next to a bomb
testing area. Yea. It was very windy (unfavorable) in the dune area! Then
we crossed the chocolate mountains and came to a border patrol station. We
got a little water there and a short while later came upon a Mexican
walking who asked us for a ride and water. We were both going to be nervous
about camping now, due to the likelihood of being accosted by aliens. Then
we saw 2 more. We decided to try to get to Palo Verde and we had decent
wind assistance by this time. My neck and butt are still quite annoying,
but we made it to the Colorado River and voila! A free county campground
with water!
