Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 01 February 1998
Day 4
01 February 1998 (Imperial Sand Dunes east of Brawley; mileage = 56.5) --
X - The rain only amounted to a few drops, but the wind picked up. After we
had gone to bed, the wind really went ballistic. I got nervous at about 4
AM and got up to check on things and reinforce the tarp. Those yahoos were
riding their sand toys almost all night! We got up kind of slowly and
finally got packed. We had a mild tail wind, but it still wasn't super
progress. After seeing a lot of desert, we finally popped out into the
Salton Sea area. We rode around to Brawley. There we bought a few groceries
and I figured out how to take 3+ gallons of H2O!! We also talked to a
Mexican who seemed interested. We took off ASAP and after what seemed like
a long time, got out of farm area. We found a spot in the desert and made
good burritos and set up camp. There is still quite a bit of traffic going
home from a different dune area.
