30 September 1997 (mileage = 12.3; Alex's) -- X - We got up and had
breakfast. I watched HP and Susan use epoxy to fix her broken fender. It
worked really well. I then pulled off a bomber cage to try on their bikes.
I found a stripped screw (they have the same metric SS SHC that I struggled
to get -- standard for them). They were impressed that a M5x.8 tap would
cure it AND I was carrying one! So now they have bomber cages, Greenfield
kickstands, Vista lights, Blackburn MTB pump, Rhodegear mirror, cheese
slicer (that they slice everything with). Very good sign for us! We then
went out on an expedition. We stopped by the grocery store 1st and got
lunch. Then to the Mark Panhandle to eat. Actually HP bought another light
(Vista) in between buying and eating food. Then we rode downtown. We
stopped at a Euro-magazine shop and the Swiss were happy to buy a Swiss
paper and a German magazine. We walked through Chinatown where I saw some
horrible-bad sculpture for sale. There was one of Michelangelo carving
David and the front was finished and the back was a stone block! Ya ... we
then rode to Wells Fargo who sent us to another bank. They got 37,000
Chilean pesos! Then back to the apartment. Alex, Sandy, the Swiss and I
went to a Thai restaurant (Alex's choice -- in his honor). I had bony duck,
which was a chore and not enough. Back at the apartment, the Swiss liked my
Ben & Jerry's idea. I got a pint for them and 1 for me across the street.
We talked a long time, then planned tomorrow. Bed time.
