29 September 1997 (sunny; warm; mileage = 18.1; San Francisco) -- X - We
got up and had breakfast. I read the Swiss' bike travel book (and worked on
my German at the same time). They cleaned their chains and HP rode out and
got a new cassette for Susan's bike. I shaved, did V.M., washed my towel by
hand and some other things. Then the Swiss and I went out on an expedition.
We went to a different map store, then the camping store again. Then we
finally found the safety store. I got a Uvex glasses case for $4. Then we
rode around, stopping at the ice cream shop. Then hardware stores for epoxy
to fix S's fender. Then dinner at a typical Chinese restaurant on Clement
Street. I got to see the Villiger Lights, and I was VERY impressed. Back at
the camp (Alex's), I read the book more while the Swiss took care of
business.
