18 September 1997 (sunny; nice; slightly cool! mileage = 0; Healdsburg) --
X - I didn't sleep well at first since it was kind of hot in the bodybag.
It cooled off, though, and it was quite nice. So I slept in a bit (~8:00).
Right away I started studying German using the text book I found. I had
cereal for breakfast and afterward decided to look at the other textbook I
found. I liked it better, so I had to start from page eins again. I studied
all day. I had quesadillas for lunch. I went down to the store and picked
up my photos. I looked over them, but to sort them will be a mess. I
practiced rolling the bodybag with the T-rest, sleeping bag and liner. I
started to sweep out the bedroom. In fact, my first successful German
question and answer happened today. "Where is a broom?" I asked. And Heidi
said (in German) "Behind the door" and I understood perfectly. It was
beautiful. During the sweeping, my mom called and I talked to her for a
long time. I am feeling guilty for tying up the phone. Robert and Heidi
made salmon and I think D&N were supposed to help eat it. They didn't show.
I got to the kitchen when everybody seemed asleep (~9:30). I was going to
cook there, then I remembered MY kitchen and I came outside and made
FANTASTIC burritos. I cut up some cheese and put that on a tortilla, then
added a bunch of (organic, no doubt) rice that R or H had made, wrapped it
all up and then just slowly fried it. Awesome. Naomi was out here smoking a
(clove?) cig while I was eating. She was talking on the phone and she just
went back inside. I'll finish my Ben & Jerry's and then set up the bodybag
in the yard. Ah! To sleep in the BIG room once again.
