12 September 1997 (very nice but mostly indoors; windows open! mileage =
0; San Francisco) -- X - We all slept in a bit. We got up and I was anxious
to work on rebuilding my body's resources. April talked me into going to
"Cafe Muse," but I insisted on stopping by Safeway first where I bought a
2-quart box of good grapefruit juice. It turns out that the cafe only
serves breakfast on weekends. So I had this really stale pastry thing which
was wretched. I'm having bad luck with food while everyone else is having
great luck. On the way back, I stopped at the Safeway again and bought 3
large potatoes for 94 cents. Back at the apartment I fried these up one at
a time every few hours. This worked great. Three 31-cent meals! That taken
care of, I tried to help April sort out what was going with her, etc., but
I couldn't help much. I did manage to get the tent dried out (from
Wednesday morning's dew). Then April's van came and she left. I spent the
rest of the day chatting with D&N and Alex and trying to clean up my
disorganized mess. We all eventually walked to a Corvette-diner-type of
place and we had decent American food. We walked back and then socialized
some more. Then D&N had to say good-bye and they were gone. Alex and I
chatted and then with Sandy, etc., but now it's time for sleep. Today I
waited for distractions to dissipate. Tomorrow -- no distractions.
