Journals - 11 September 1997

11 September 1997 (sunny; mileage = 0; San Francisco) -- A - Dennis wanted to return the truck early, so it had less chance of acquiring graffiti, so the plan had been to get up at 8. I wound up being up with Chris for a while, but did get up on time. Nancy and Alex did not up, however. D and I walked to Cafe Muse for coffee and by the time we got back, N & A were up. Chris was dead to the world, so I thought he would sleep for quite a while. The 4 of us went to return the truck, have breakfast, get sandals and look for some gifts D&N wanted to buy. We did a LOT of walking and it took much longer than I anticipated, but I should expect that with them, right? Chris was up when we got back and seemingly not too happy with me, so I came to do laundry. They are deciding where to go for dinner. I'm really not interested. I saw a Hard Rock Cafe, which would be neat, but it's far away. Oh yeah, I tried on Levi's, but the size I have at home is too small for me. Guess it's time to quit eating anyway. X - I woke up at 2:30. There was no one here and it was very quiet. My clothes were all extremely filthy and I didn't quite know what to do. I figured that April would be back at any time and so I just read for a while. Just before I started to execute a plan to wear April's "dirty" clothes to go get something to eat, they all came back. There was much distracting conversation and socializing. April rushed off to do laundry and hide. This left me without her clothes either. So I hung around here mostly naked waiting for the next wave of hunger to hit someone. Well, it was an absurdly long time, which made for a very stupid, unfortunate move on my part. April came back with clothes (step #1) and instead of running right out to Safeway, I waited patiently as the dinner plans unfolded. No one was in a huge hurry (since the protective lining of their kneecaps wasn't being metabolized for energy). We finally got under way and waited an absurdly long time for 2 different buses. Over 1 hour, maybe 90 minutes. These took us across town to an Italian restaurant. Since I'm saving my Italian food appetite for Knorr and pasta in the wilderness, I got a unique "cheese burger," which was not bad at all. I also ate some pizza. That done, we had a scenic downtown walk and a bus ride back. Now I'm here and I've been writing for a LONG time now. I'm kind of tired, but I bet I could go outside and ride a few hundred miles. Kind of weird.
