Summer 1997 - Yukon to California
Journals - 27 August 1997
Day 48
27 August 1997 (mileage = 0; Healdsburg) -- A - I started the day off by
walking down to the grocery store a few blocks away. I wanted milk and
cereal and that is what I got, plus choc donuts, choc milk and hot choc
mix. I perused home improvement magazines and was pleased (and saddened, I
guess) that I found the contents mostly wasteful and completely
undesirable. Chris got the computer fired up in preparation for cataloging
our pictures and we wasted some time playing the typing games. Once we
started the picture project, it managed to take the rest of the day. Robert
got home and Daniel came over before we were done. Heidi had fixed dinner
and we were included. Her ex even came over. We sat out there and talked
for a while. That ended and Chris and I fixed Jiffy Pop in the back yard
and then ate a little bit more even. Chris called his dad's house to get
info on the disposition of the Blazer, but Stu and Linda are both out of
town. He talked to Alan and Sarah, who were both quite anxious to talk to
him. They liked the gifts he sent to them. He also called Dennis to get
Alex's phone number (again) and finally called Alex and got the OK to crash
there and directions. Seth was unavailable. Oh, earlier he called Steve Cox
to have his new bivy sent here to Robert's house. Tomorrow we will begin
shutdown procedures here and prepare for departure on Friday. I'll be sad
to leave, but glad to have some activity. X - I ??? the garage for German
books for dumb Americans to learn, but I came away with only some kid's
books that I'm working on translating. For example: "Des Kaisers neue
Kleider."
