Summer 1997 - Yukon to California
Journals - 26 August 1997
Day 47
26 August 1997 (mileage = 67.1; Healdsburg; side trip with Bruce Gordon)
-- X - We got up at a reasonable time. We read for a while until we thought
B. Gordon would be there. April called him and set up an appointment. We
got our stuff ready and off we went. The riding was mostly flat and we had
no weight on the bikes, but we weren't all that fast anyway. There were
lots of lights and traffic which is a drag. Also, my sprockets were being
really bad. It was farther than I thought to his shop. (~33 miles). We
talked to him for a medium while. Interesting, but not compelling. We
stopped at a couple of bike shops on the way back before finding a Schwinn
dealer who was quite reasonable. He had a non-Shimano crank for $50 and
that was as good as it gets. He even switched S.E. crank bolts for me. Very
good. We ate at a mediocre Mexican restaurant and then continued back home.
It was a long ride, but flat and unloaded. We stopped by and got our
pictures. At the house, we looked at the pictures first. Then we made BLTs
in the back yard. Then Robert made sure I knew how to use the computer to
label the pix tomorrow. I found a 100% MS-free method. I played with a
typing tutor and got up to 57 wpm, which isn't bad considering how long
it's been since I typed.
