Spring 1997 - Cincinnati to Yukon

Day 83 - Charlie Lake, B.C.
22 June 1997 (mostly sunny with periodic rain; mileage 53.7) -- A -
Finally! A clear morning -- WOW! Susan and Hanspeter left to go back to the
mile 0' in Dawson Creek and we left shortly after they did, but we headed
north(west). Within an hour they caught up to us and passed us (we were at
a break). We had lots of hills and a couple pretty serious ones. Our first
big river valley had a pretty good decent and the river was in an awesome
channel cut in the rock. We walked out on the bridge and got a photo. The
second one had major warning signs and a brake check -- COOL! It was a very
long descent and gorgeous views! Then across the bridge and not too bad on
the ascending side (X - S&H passed us again [they rested?] while we put on
rain gear). Once we met S&H, we made a grocery stop and headed for camp.
After we'd eaten, Stephan came on an Enduro bike thing and camped next to
us. He's German. He's traveled quite extensively (X - Germany to Australia
and back through China and Russia) and he also put us to shame with his
cooking and it was a bag of rice dinner stuff, but he added fresh garlic,
zucchini, etc. Ugh! We had burritos and we enjoyed them, though! Stefan's
motorcycle also had Ortlieb panniers! We want some -- not fair!
