Spring 1997 - Cincinnati to Yukon
Journals - 27 April 1997
Day 27 - Harrison Lake, OH
27 April 1997 (windy! overcast; probably 50s; mileage = 0) -- A - We woke
up feeling very slimy. I hadn't noticed it too much when I went to sleep,
because I was so tired, but I felt pretty coated in muck this morning.
Chris went off in pursuit of a shower first. He came back clean, but I was
having a very difficult time getting up. My neck felt extremely achy and
there seemed to be a headache attached to it somehow. I finally prepared
myself and took off. It was the best shower yet! Not only because it was so
needed, but you could adjust hot/cold and pressure and the hand (hair)
dryer swiveled upward for multiple drying positions. VERY NICE experience!
We both washed our clothes in the shower and Chris tied up a clothesline.
The wind is so strong, it's not taking very long to dry. He wanted to go on
to Michigan today. Apparently, we are only 5 miles from the border. Not
being able to get groceries kind of makes our plan to stay here 2 nights
difficult. Going back to Archibold would be over 20 miles round trip and he
thinks we can get to our destination in MI and a grocery within 30 miles or
so. If I could just pedal the distance, I guess I could do it, but it's
later now and WINDY and looks like rain could happen any time and I'm
tired. I'd so looked forward to a break (reading, writing letters) after an
entire day of riding that I just don't think I'm up to it. Of course, when
it's pouring rain as we leave in the morning, I'll be wishing I'd gone
today.
We loafed around all day. It rained late in the day.
