Spring 1997 - Cincinnati to Yukon
Journals - 22 April 1997
Day 22 - John Bryan S.P., OH
22 April 1997 (mostly cloudy; 40 degrees AM; 60s PM; mileage = 70.3) -- A
- Managed to get up before 7 and get things packed pretty quickly. We made
some good changes which help with speed of packing. We now have the 2
sleeping bags left together with the liner left in (new liner is VERY
NICE!) In one bag. We got new long Thermarests (Happy B-day to me!) in the
chair kits, so that's less to deal with also. I made a larger "tent" bag
with lots of asst. junk in it, but it used to be 3 different bags, so this
is simpler. Anyway, we had donuts, loaded the bikes and left around 8.
Chris' dad took some pictures of us and Chris took one of his dad in his
robe taking our picture. Nancy took pictures yesterday of us leaving --
maybe they're happy to see us go and want proof that we're gone! 5.5 miles
of Indian Hill and we hit the dirt trail portion of the Little Miami trail.
We took it until it ended just before Xenia (X - here we saw Gary -- God of
bike trial), got another trail in Xenia and went a couple miles beyond it
to John Bryan State Park. We had to pay for our first campsite. $8 for no
shower! Ate beef stew, chili and junk. We have hot water lined up to wash
off with and I'm ready for my 12 hours sleep! On to Kaiser Lake tomorrow is
the rumor. Supposedly short -- yeah -- today was only SUPPOSED to be 50
miles and we were supposed to be by Springfield. Oh well, you're not
supposed to listen to SUPPOSED to be's, I guess!
