Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati

Day 48
17 March 1998 (Dad's house/Indian Hill; mileage = 89.5) -- X - It rained
lightly for much of the night. We were both ready to go early, since we
were excited about this being the last day. The tent was surprisingly dry
for as much rain as we had. We packed up and left in a light drizzle. It
was 38 degrees F and for the 3rd straight day, the wind was cranking from
due east! Ahhh! We were crawling along at 7 and 8 mph. We didn't see a
breakfast op in N. Vernon, and we were also on empty. We stopped for a
snack and pushed into Versailles, where the McD's has very friendly (nice)
hostesses. We read the Cinci paper and refueled. On US 50 again, the
shoulder was wide and that relieved stress for a while. We cranked on past
the Aurora Casket Company, Seagrams, Argosy Casino, and the Ohio border. We
stopped in Cleves to pay homage to the TT site. Then the long ride into
downtown. Near downtown, an interested guy stopped and was an uplifting
influence. We scrambled around the nasty traffic to 8th and Linn and said
hi to Linda and put most of our stuff in her vehicle (at 73 miles!). We
then rode (flew!) light bikes up Monastery Street, thru Eden Park to
Dynamic and the old commute to Mariemont. We ate at Mios and rode up to
Dad's. We set out things to dry and had a nice shower and went to bed.
