Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 14 March 1998
Day 45
14 March 1998 (Washington, Indiana; mileage = 97.9) -- A - We got up and
on the road early and had 20 miles done before arriving in Olney for
breakfast shortly after 9 AM! Chris checked Wal-mart for tires -- no go. We
ate at McD's and pounded out the rest of the miles. We got to
Lawrenceville, Illinois, and US 50 became off-limits to us. We did the "bus
route" through town, hoping the restriction would end on the other side of
town, but it did not. We decided to ride on it anyway. Traffic was light,
and it was better than what we'd ridden on most of the day. We made it to
Indiana and through the freeway loop around Vincennes. We stopped at a
motel in Wheatland that turned out to be full of construction workers, so
on to Washington. Here, we checked an expensive Budgetel and then took a
long detour through town to wind up at a dumpy place for only $12 less than
the new place with pool and spa! We were too tired to go back, so here we
are. We saw a sign before the Indiana border for Cincinnati -- 188 miles!
We watched « of a Harrison Ford/Brad Pitt movie that wasn't very good.
Maybe the 1st « would have helped.
