Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 18 February 1998
Day 21
18 February 1998 (near intersection of 160 and 166, Colorado; mileage =
93.2) -- A - Chris was too pissed off with our situation to sleep, so we
didn't get much sleep and got up before 6. We had the "free" room coffee
and the rest of the toaster pastries for a pre-ride snack. We left a little
after 7 and enjoyed not-busy roads and good wind. We made great time. An
Arizona cop stopped us to warn us of drunk drivers and to stay far to the
right. Gee, thanks. We stopped for snacks and then lunch (where we got
thorns, which gave the BOB a flat eventually) and just to rest a couple
times. The scenery was quite nice -- we could see snowy mountains in the
distance and while in Arizona still, we were by the slick rock stuff. As
soon as we got into Colorado, after 3 minutes in New Mexico, the scenery
changed to sand-duney brown, instead of the adobe coloring of Arizona.
We're on the Ute Indian Reservation, but thus far have seen no signs of
settlement. We're down a hill from the road.
