Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati
Journals - 10 February 1998
Day 13
10 February 1998 (Ash Fork [I-40] RV Park; mileage = 48) -- A - We were up
until shortly after 1 AM and I didn't even get everything done I wanted. We
got up by 7:30 and got the finishing touches done. We had some free coffee
and left by around 9. It was a little icy on the roads, but the sun was out
and it melted quickly. It was easy riding for 20 or so miles -- straight,
pretty flat and no traffic. We got to Seligman and saw a wild buffalo and
some burros in little pens. They didn't look too happy. We decided to go on
to Ash Fork for lunch. It was about 20 miles further and Chris thought it
would be downhill from the map. It turned out we had to go over a pass and
then way down. We had to stop to adjust clothes and snack a couple of
times, but it was absolutely beautiful riding. The scenery was awesome and
there was hardly any traffic. We took the old Route 66, instead of I-40.
Though we did eventually get dumped onto I-40 5 miles prior to Ash Fork. We
saw an RV park in an Exxon parking lot. We wanted to use the picnic table
for lunch, but when we found out it's $7 to camp with free showers AND a
laundromat, we decided to stay. Oh yea, and it's all uphill (20 mile) on
I-40 to Williams.
