25 September 1997 (nice in morning; warm in afternoon; mileage = 56;
Healdsburg [Robert's with Swiss!]) -- X - We got up nice and early and ate
and got going. I lead off and had a good ride on a course I've come to know
well. The Swiss left a bit later than me and I never saw them. I did have a
guy try to catch me on a bike. Not. I was feeling much better today. I
stopped at the top of the climbing (where I had my flat) and had a snack.
I finished the morning course and had a lemonade at the Burger Ranch Cafe.
I also called Alex. The Swiss weren't long -- HP's elapsed time was around
3 hours and we were off by about 5 minutes. I'm sure that his waiting for
Susan would be commensurate with April's riding. We had not-great-hamburger
food and listened to obnoxious tradesmen behind us. Next we rode against
the wind down to Healdsburg. HP cranked in the wind. I was kind of tired
and full. In Healdsburg, we stopped at the juice place and had some awesome
shakes. Wow! They were good. Then to the house. We started laundry and
unpacked and showered. Then I took the Swiss (who seemed intrigued) over to
the football field to explain it to them. There was a H.S. game and the
P.A. could be heard at Robert's. They seemed entertained by my commentary.
We chatted with Robert and Heidi a bit. Then the Swiss and I went to El
Sombrero for some good food. Then to the grocery store. There was a real
kooky guy in there insisting that the women go first. Ya, nice try. Back at
the house, the Swiss went to their room and I chatted with Robert and
looked at Swiss money. I slept on the floor of Daniel's room.
