16 September 1997 (sunny; hot; mileage = 92.5; Healdsburg [Robert's]) -- X
- I was up nice and early and got everything packed up. I said good-bye to
Alex and took off. It was a bit tricky navigating through the presidio, but
a girl on a bike led me to the bridge. From there, it was just hard work. I
rode non-stop until mile 45 (where April and I ate lunch while southbound).
I stopped just to pee since I was in a hurry to get to 70 miles before the
wind picked up. This worked out pretty well, but I was tired by lunch,
which I ate at a nice park in Tomales. I rested and got ready for the last
of the ride. That was pretty uneventful with just one stop also. Once in
Healdsburg, I stopped by Robert's construction project to say hi. Then I
went to Taco Sombrero for some food. Back at the house, I waited outside
(because it was nice) for someone to get home. I read my German book and
took a nap. I didn't want to unload my bike, since I wanted to weigh it
because it felt VERY heavy today. Eventually, Robert and Heidi got home at
the same time. I weighted the bike (115 pounds), then unpacked. Next, I
took a shower. They ordered burritos and I got one, too. Now I've set up
the bivy and I'm checking it out. It may be way too hot. We'll see. Oh ya
-- at the spot where April and I saw some deer grazing with cattle on the
way down, I saw today about 20 deer. 2 of them were Albino. They could have
been elk, but 2 were all white.
