Summer 1997 - Yukon to California
Journals - 30 August 1997
Day 51
30 August 1997 (mileage = 0; San Francisco) -- A - Dennis and Nancy
arrived sometime around 1 AM, I think. They were pretty tired, so we all
went to sleep pretty soon after they arrived. We slept in our sleeping bag
on Alex's floor and they slept in his bed. Alex slept in someone else's
room. We got up late and sat in the kitchen talking for quite a while.
Chris and I headed to Golden Gate Park and the DeYoung Art Museum when D,
N, and A went to a cafe for breakfast. Admission to the museum was $7 each,
which was too much, but we went in anyway. I'll let Chris describe the
contents if he'd like to. There were some landscape paintings that were my
favorite pieces we saw. I think the artist's name was Young, but I'm not
sure anymore. I meant to remember it, because I really liked 2 pieces he
did. We walked around the park a little and stopped at the corner market on
the way back. We bought lunch and a paper with a critical mass story. We
went back to Alex's for a while and Dennis put their bikes together and
then we took a bus (2 actually) to The Stinking Rose, a place near where
Alex used to live when Dennis visited before. It was Italian and I did not
like the food at all. Chris had rabbit and seemed to not mind it. I had a
weed salad and garlic chunk pizza. X - The art museum was over touristed.
Maybe I was just tired, but I didn't really think it was too great. The
meal was over touristed, too. Our waiter got a $20 tip. Wow! So the food
wasn't bad, per se, but I'd have rather had 4 feet of Subway sandwich. My
rabbit had no trace of garlic.
