Day 44

23 August 1997 (nice and sunny; mileage = very small [X only]; Healdsburg [chez Robert]) -- A - We slept in quite late apparently, and both had showers once we got up. Ahh! Clean again. We walked up to a cafe for coffee and muffins. This is something Heidi likes to do and we even took Sasha (the dog). Once there, we got to meet Jon-Pierre and Richelle, who just happened to be there and then later Daniel joined us and eventually his father, Joseph, also joined us. This was all so bizarrely quaint. There are supposed to be 10,000 people in this town and I guess they all go to the cafe. Anyway, as we were walking home, we came upon some cyclists getting their bikes ready next to their car and they needed some glue for a patch, so Chris ran the several blocks to the house to get some and rode back up to them. I spent the afternoon on the porch in a rocking chair reading a gardening book and some other books. Chris was with Robert showing him the calculator and talking about lots of things I suppose, but I don't know what. Later, I went to the grocery with Heidi -- WOW! How long since I'd been in a car? We watched a French film in the evening that was interesting and then Chris, Heidi and Robert had some even more interesting conversation. Such conversations make me realize all too clearly how stupid I am and I just keep my mouth shut but I do enjoy listening very much. I already see that I will be terribly sad to leave here. Heidi and Robert are beautiful and wonderful people, and I know I will miss them. Pity that it would be so expensive to move to Healdsburg. It seems like a very nice place, but I would have a difficult time supporting myself. X - April just reminds us that we got to hear A.D.'s 9th Symphony and They Might Be Giants.
