Winter 1998 - San Diego to Cincinnati

Day 2
30 January 1998 (Cuyumala Rancho State Park; mileage = 21) -- X - We got
up and started packing at sunrise. It was annoying because everything was
cold and wet and we were in the bushes. When we got rolling, we found the
going to be very rough. We climbed ALL day; our average riding speed was ~
4 mph. We stopped to eat breakfast and a Jehova's Witness type stopped to
give us some Bible info. We slogged on ever upward. Toward the end, there
was some confusion about which campground we should go to. We chose the
farther, higher-elevation site. It's very nice. For a Friday, it's very
empty. We're right by the showers and there's no other campers in sight. We
dried things out, ate fried garlic potatoes and took showers. A much more
professional evening.
