Neither of us is a big fan of McDonalds, but when a mega corporation destroys the local businesses, that's often all that's left. And to be fair, they did offer us a consistency that was helpful. We could almost bank on towns of a certain size having a McD's and therefore a bathroom and a place to sit that wasn't being rained or snowed on. I must admit that we used those hand dryers in the bathrooms very extensively on this trip. In this region, where the McD's were very regular, we got into the habit of stopping at one in the morning. Every morning, it was the same scene a group of old guys just "hanging out" in the McD's nursing $.60 worth of coffee for several hours. And people say teenagers are bad for loitering! Sometimes the old men were cool, sometimes they were jerks. (Which pretty much describes people (and bears) in general).
