Before this trip I had been in Kansas and I had been in Illinois. I know for a fact that both of these states are relatively flat. What caught me by surprise was the fact that Missouri, in between the two, was outrageously hilly. Not tall mountains, but just up and down, up and down. Very steep, very nasty, all day long. But we weren't complaining too much. The hills give the landscape some protection from the wind - our main nemesis.
