Summer 1997 - Yukon to California
Journals - 14 August 1997
Day 35
14 August 1997 (cool; cloudy; mileage = 0; Patrick's Point State Park) -- A
- We slept until after 10. I did not sleep very well, I think because I
couldn't breathe very well and now I have an ache in my side/back. We
went up and toured the Yurok village. It wasn't so noteworthy and I used
the phone. I tried to call my mom, but she wasn't home and then I tried to
call the Meow Mart, only I couldn't remember the number! (Chris later
proved he DOES remember it -- WOW!) Voice mail had lots of messages. I
asked everyone to say hi, and they did! My mom was even one of them! She's
right on the ball checking into air fares for me to come home and get
locked in the dungeon. I keep thinking maybe I ought to reconsider and stay
on the bike with Chris, but I fear that is not the best plan at this time.
I did go take a shower after we had our breakfast at lunch time. The water
was tepid at best. Brr! Chris went to go to the bathroom and get water and
I managed to write 8 post cards while he was gone. Oh! He found a Swiss
(French-speaking) guy out there and interrogated him for a while. It's very
chilly here (60 degrees or so) and I'm ready to fire up some water. Chris
has planned out our hilly route from the DeLorme map. X - Our new Swiss
friend is Oliver and he's very cool. I invited him over to look at our
super atlas and chat. He was very interesting and even a bit interested in
us. It's always fun to talk to Swiss folk. We then had a good dinner of
rice and grilled cheese. It's dark now. Bed already! Didn't we just get up?
