Summer 1997 - Yukon to California
Journals - 5 August 1997
Day 26
5 August 1997 (sunny; mileage = 2.1 [micro miles]; Barview County Park) --
A - Here we are at the same place for a second night. We had such a
wonderful experience yesterday, we couldn't leave. We loafed in the tent
until it became an oven and started baking us. It was nice and cool
outside. It was one of those too-cool-in-the-shade but too-warm-in-the-sun
deals. That changed as the wind picked up -- then it felt good in the sun
too, but dangerous for burning. Wow, was it windy! We went down to the
beach to dawdle for a bit and Chris played throw the stick into the wind
and catch as it throws it back. It looked quite like fun, but I remained in
the windblocked area and read my book (acquired back in Port McNeill).
Earlier, we had gone to pay for day #2 and checked messages. Dennis was
there twice, first asking for a call and second (after he received a
letter) asking for a call. We then went to the little grocery store a block
away and got food. We had burritos for lunch and yummy chocolate milk,
presumably made not far from here in Tillamook County somewhere. We never
did get hungry enough to cook the potatoes we bought. Chris did finally go
call Dennis and apparently he will come to San Francisco for their 2-week
tour. I suppose this means I will stay there to accompany the expedition.
We have everything tucked away once again and are hoping this kick-ass wind
from the north continues tomorrow to carry us to California!
