Summer 1997 - Yukon to California
Journals - 30 July 1997
Day 20
30 July 1997 (cloudy; some sun; mileage = 52.9; Leland Lake Recreation
Area) -- A - We managed to get up shortly after 6 this morning. We did
pretty good with our new places for everything. I think we'll be able to
handle the new way pretty well. I like it. We had a quickie breakfast and
exited. We stopped at a farm where Chris got some blueberries and some
raspberries. It was only $2 for both, but they weren't as good as the ones
in Canada a couple days ago (I did not have any). We got to the ferry just
in time to get on for a change. It was a quick ride to Pete Townsend. We
found some tables at a dock and had lunch and then wound up touring this
up-on-a-hill town to find a grocery. There were lots of boats to see, which
was neat. We found a shop where they make kits for wooden boats (mostly
kayaks, I think). Chris got a brochure and seems pretty impressed by it. We
found a perfect box by a recycling bin and recycled it on the spot -- into
a box to send home the front panniers from my bike and the low rider racks
and some stuff sacks. It took a while to get that all ready to go, but it
was worth it. Then we hit the Safeway where Chris had the
interested-old-man phenomenon again. It was 2 PM by the time we got on our
way again. We were scheduled for a 66-mile day, but we came across a state
park (X - no a city rec area) not indicated on the map. No showers, but
it's only $6 and we've had a long day, so here we are. Dinner will be
salad, sandwiches and fruit.
