A review of Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince. Ok, it’s not really a review but really just grammar pedantry.

If an entire clause operates like the object of a preposition, this does not mean the subject of that clause should be made an object.

  • p. 14 "…both of these are suspect to whomever has become powerful."

  • p. 68 "…and one conspires with difficulty against whomever is reputed…"

With the source writing made rough to my ears by the centuries, I actually found these errors confusing.
