Today, 2025-04-24, I went rollerskiing for the first time this year. It was the first day since last autumn that reasonable skiing on snow was no longer possible for me.
I consider the ski season still active if I can get to roughly a kilometer or more of somewhat clean snow with less than 30 minutes of driving. Yesterday was the last day I could do that.
On April 17 I posted a short video of Mya and I doing some very late season skiing. Later I will post some more details about this year's extraordinary ski season but I wanted to post this video showing what my last days of skiing on snow looked like.
The video starts two days earlier (April 21) when I went to one of the last snow covered tracks I know and skied with Mya in the rain. I couldn't get a GPS signal that day but I later worked out that we in fact had done 5.8km at about 8kph. That was a little more than I'd planned and her farthest outing of the season. The next day (April 22) I went back there alone. I don't have any footage of that, but I did 9km with an average speed of 12kph — so that was definitely not some trivial perfunctory skiing. Unfortunately, that was the last day skiing would be possible on that route.
The video concludes with the next and final day (April 23) when I took Mya to the last road/trail I knew about with skiable snow on it. We managed to find about 1km of snow covered trails and therefore did a more modest 2km. But it was a beautiful morning and a good way to end this fantastic season.
